Big BIG props to my seriously-talented and artsy friend CYNTHIA of Technicolor Postcards for throwing her hat into the ring of CRAFTING KITS to be offered on her ETSY SHOP.

Cynthia is promising "five paper designs and one custom rub-on. The kit will feature Technicolor Postcard designs with some other wonderful manufacturers and of course some handpicked vintage embellishments. And a little more. I am gonna do one add-on. This will be designed by my debut guest designer."

Weeeee!! I cannot wait (and yes, I submitted as a Design Team candidate. I will keep you posted!)

If you haven't already, check out Cynthia's blog and you will find yourself enthralled with her uber-cool sense of style and design sensibilities. I met Cynthia at Inspired in April (thanks, Aimee , for introducing us!) and fast became a loyal follower of her blog. (My only complaint is she doesn't post often enough! Wow. My very own Kal Barteski Custom Tiny Art Lady! (Be kind, remember, the camera adds 25 pounds....har-dee-har-har.)

Seriously. How cool is this? Just arrived in the mail today!!

Now how on earth do I display her? I am afraid to SCRATCH it. hmmmm....I am thinking a clear frame -- no mat-maybe just those simple two pieces of glass clipped together things? Anyone have any good suggestions?

Favorite Photo Friday! {#1}

Ok Stella and Cameron---I am not nearly the photo-tog you two ladies are....but I wanna play!!
(also great motivation to TAKE MORE PHOTOS. Sheesh. I really don't take enough VARIETY)

So here is a little share for you. Lunch at CAKE with the fabulous STELLLA!!! Delish. Lovely field greens salad and a hummus/pita/pizza. I've been making my own version of it since having it for lunch a few weeks ago now...Rob loves it and that makes the wifey in me very happy! (recipe below!)

(PS - how much do you love the rustic wood table? And the individual bottle of Lorina sparkling pink lemonade? Oh my life should be this good everyday! Except without the balled up straw wrapper ruining this beautiful foodie-shot! Oh--and that one stray chunk of feta on the plate. See what I mean about not being that GOOD at this photography stuff?)

Back to the recipe......

My Version of the Lemon/Garlic Hummus Pita Pizza

Ingredients:

Hummus

Roasted red pepper (did you know you can do this right on the burner of your gas oven? Cut your pepper in half, remove membrane and seeds; lay skin-side down on burner, turn flame on and roast til pepper skin blackens/scorches and pepper softens to desired consistency --use metal tongs to turn (like toasting a marshmallow over an open flame).

Steamed spinach - squeezed dry (cool or room temp is fine)

Feta cheese

black or calamata olives (optional)

Blend up a batch of Emeril's hummus

Spread a heaping serving onto a Pita or Naan bread

Top with spinach

Slice the red pepper and olives and sprinkle over spinach

Sprinkle feta on top

Cut into wedges and ENJOY!

WASSIMA Art Deck - Week 7!

OK - I haven't put mine together yet....but I have the PROMPT*!

Woke up EARLY (6:30 am) because I couldn't wait to get back to reading "Breaking Dawn" - (seriously, ladies - if you haven't started this series--what are you waiting for?) And I was pleasantly surprised to see the SUN had returned (after a dreary overcast day yesterday)...and I had just enough French Vanilla Creamer to make an iced coffee in my new Starbucks cup....and at 1pm little miss will be arriving and I cannot wait to try the new outfit on her from the O'Tooles (thanks! pics asap!) and I had plenty of time to scrap a few more pages in Sirryha's book, plan the shopping bag scrapbook for Mikayla, and there you have it---a perfect day and today's prompt!

*Week 7 Prompt: A Perfect Day. What would yours be? Mine always involves a NONWORK day, reading and/or some sort of creative endeavor, and/or family fun time. If I were a hockey player, I think I would have just experienced a HAT TRICK! If i were a baseball player - I'd have racked up a triple play? (Am I getting ANY of these sports analogies right? Have no idea where they came from, as I don't BEND let alone engage in strenuous exercise.)

• Shouting out CONGRATS to two creative inspirations who are EXPECTING BABIES!! First - Karalenn (Penelope Crackers!) - oh Karalenn please join our art deck journal again!! I miss your enchanting paintings!! And second- Ali Edwards! This news makes me so happy...feeling the baby love mojo so strongly these days.
• Speaking of baby love.... Sirryha is STARTING TO WALK! Took a few steps for her daddy for the first time on Friday - and I witnessed it too, yesterday. WOW. Time is FLYING by. How can she be ONE already?
• Big CONGRATS to Amy for her entry into the publishing world with her Somerset acceptance for her fairy house!! So excited and happy for you. So, so, so love your VISUALIZATION practices! Cynthia....I am continuing my visualization for good health for your mom....thanks, Amy, for the idea! It reminded me of the visualization Gildna Radner recounted in her book about her ovarian cancer. You can read it described here (sorry, couldn't find a direct link to the book passage)...this idea has always stayed with me in the back of my mind (and I read the book over ten years ago)...thanks, again, Amy for reminding me to pull this out and bring it back into my life!

I could go on, for some reason today! Feeling much love and gratitude to my family and INSPIRED PEEPS for sharing all their artistic gifts and nurturing me along the way...you are all a blessing to me!

Oh how I love Flickr and the Mosiac Maker from BigHugeLabs. I can get lost in Flickr for HOURS - makes me wish I had a real camera and was artsy with photography (but not enough to really LEARN all about it. ISO and FStops and Apeture? Oh no....too much math or something involved there. But I SO admire good photography.)

Flash to the posting from Emily Falconbridge's blog (she-goddess, herself!) about her photoshoot with BFF Tara Whitney (another goddess!) and the talented BohoGirl/Denise (and yet another goddess!). How much do you love her photos? LOVE her writing and blog, as well. How cool is the story of them meeting via internet and then Tara planning a photoshoot for her and Em? Oh there is magic in this internet world of artsy women! LOVE THAT!

So...back to the Mosiac Maker. I always wanted to try this and then Denise had this fun thing on her blog - you answer questions that lead to photo selections on Flickr, and it becomes a mosiac of you. How cool, huh?! Weeeeeee!! Remember my lovefest for the INSPIRED event and the colored pencil class with Kal Barteski? And my instant affection for her Tiny Art Ladies? And my NONE-TOO-SUBTLE hints to hubby about wanting a CUSTOM one of my own? (Note I am skipping over my impatient rantings about it taking too long!)

YUP. It is done!! Miss Kal emailed the jpg to Rob today and it is en route to us!!!

Here is an excerpt of what he wrote to Kal: "Her favorite colors are blue and green (and pink). She is very creative and crafts all the time. She is funny, sensitive, loving, loud and playful." (You can imagine how I cringed at the "she is loud"--uh, yeah, I KNOW I am, but I don't like it! But the rest is lovely, honey! Thanks!)

Oh yeah...I am a teenybopper. Damn happy to admit it. Loves me the TWILIGHTS SERIES. Stephenie Meyer is a genius storyteller---(loved "The Host," too. Gimme more!)

So how about the marketing tie-ins at Barnes & Nobel? Godiva Chocolate labels and Vampire-esque journals. And a drawing for Bella's charm bracelet for those who pre-order the book. Oh where do I sign????

Saturday Stuff

Ohh happy day! Love the weekend. Sunny and beautiful (good thing because we have a luau party to attend this eve!). Got lots done this morning....including printing all my pics for the "Scrap Your Day" challenge this month! (And I used every pic I printed! Lots of layering....too bulky, but it's all good, man. Just need to journal and then it's done until next month on the 25th!)

Have you INSPIRED girls seen Miss Donna's big weight loss reveal photos? OMG is she fab or what? GO DONNA D!

Still sorting through my TREASURES from my play date with STELLLAAAAA!!! Our IKEA run netted me some CUSHION COVERS for the porch chairs at last! (They are pillow covers, actually...but I jammed the chair cushions in and I LOVE the color combos. Now I want a gazillion lime/moss green flower pots to surround them! And of course a new something for the front door. And so it goes....)

Also bought this Fredrika fabric at IKEA to go with the trees fabric I bought last trip...ohhh I want to make more APRONS out of this! (Ala the ones from Emily's Italy classes!)

And now off we go to add more entries to our Summer Staycation journal!

WEEK 5 - Art Deck - Whose Style Do You Admire?

Week 5 Art Deck Prompt: WHOSE STYLE DO YOU ADMIRE?

I've been doing a lot of doodling lately (admittedly during some tedious meetings at work--shhh--don't tell. I don't notice ANYONE else in these particular meetings doing this...how do they stand it? Hours and hours on end - my mind wanders....ANYWAY)

Recently I discovered Hugh MacLeod's Gaping Void "Streetcards" - blog cards (instead of "business cards") and I fell in love with his cartoons. I think he is just brilliant. Love his "How to Be Creative" posting. My doodlings of late have clearly been influenced by the "cityscapes" I see in his drawings - love the chaotic crowded, busy-ness his cartoons invoke--so interesting to me that what looks like a mere ink scribbling is SO not effortless to duplicate! Again--the crafter in me admires the originality in the artist.

So whose style do you admire of late?

Art Journal - WEEK 3! Let's Go Green!

Week 3 of our art deck journal....the theme is GREEN.

I noticed today how much I surround myself with green. I love it in all shades and in every season. Right now the leaves of our hydrangeas are a beautiful healthy green....new jammies and pacie for Sirryha - also green! New palette of patterned papers - GREEN GREEN GREEN. IKEA fabric waiting to be turned into something - GREEN TREES. yum. Even saving the earth is a GREEN THING!

And so I give you my WEEK 3 card.....brought to you by the color GREEN (yeah--loving the old Sesame Street songs, too, with little Miss to sing to! Nik---I still remember all the words to RUBBER DUCKIE and I LOVE TRASH and of course, IT'S NOT EASY BEING GREEN. Did you know Ray Charles and Frank Sinatra both recorded "It's Not Easy Being Green?" Go, Kermie!! GO GREEN!)

Scrap Your Day - JUNE 25 (and May!)

Ok...catching up this weekend....last week I transferred my "homemade" pages into the Making Memories calendar (ooohh that scalloped edge!) - worked a bit on the cover today -- TOTALLY copied Shimelle's idea (why fix it if it ain't broken?) - LOVE this textured paper from Doodlebug...wouldn't it be great wallpaper?? YUM. Three months down! Using the inside front cover to tack on the reminder pics Shimelle posts each month (cause I love these!) and the first page is going to be a collage of spare photos I print but don't use each month....I am getting LOTS on each page - but I want to get into the groove of repeating the same shots month to month to make it more about the details....(added a shot of the car odometer and the price of a tank of gas...will be interesting in ten years, no? Also love the shot of the shower products....don't know why, but I do! Finding most of the details I tend to capture about are only interesting to me---but that makes me love this book!)

Wedding Love

I love weddings. I love brides and big wedding parties and vows and tradition and family and getting dressed up and wedding cake!

And I love pink flowers....this centerpiece is the most lovely I have ever seen at at summer wedding, I think! Lucky me---I got to bring one home! GORGEOUS.

Art Journal - WEEK 2! "What Gets You Twitterpated?"

Aimee's prompt for week two was "What Gets You Twitterpated?" Easy answer.

Love letters!

Last year, at around Christmastime, I had left a note for Rob on the counter in the kitchen...and when I tore the sheet off the tablet, I apparently tore off two pages. Rob wrote a reply to my note on the second sheet and later told me "I like this two pieces of paper thing" -- and he started leaving me notes in the morning..alongside a second blank piece of paper for me to write back. awwwww...how sweet was that? And so another tradition was born.

I love his notes in his scratchy, scrawly handwriting. I can't get enough of them! Someday I will bind them all together in a journal or something...(because yes, of course I save them all!)

WASSIMA ART DECK CHALLENGE - Week One Prompt!

Ready? LET'S GO!

This week starts our WASSIMA Art Deck Challenge....each Sunday Aimee and I will take turns posting a prompt---those participating, please link your creations to the comments so we can follow along....the best part is seeing/reading every one's interpretations each week.

You can imagine the PRESSURE to get this first Prompt going!! Oh my. How to compete with Emily Falconbridge - SHE-GODDESS HERSELF!?!? For me, these cards are a true "Ode to Emily" because I LOVE her work and her mini art challenge was my favorite project EVER.

This is also an "Ode to Aimee" because she has been such a great CREATIVE FRIEND to me since we met serendipitously at a Donna Downey class in 2006 and started our BLOGS together afterwards, and have stayed BFFs as creative muses to each other...and that led to the INSPIRED event when our girl Aimee brought me so many more friends into my blogging/creative world!! And do you know why? BECAUSE SHE IS SNOW WHITE! She is the friendliest most open and welcoming lady.....she is fairy dust and fun and makes it all better when I am with her!! (And she hates that I call her SNOW WHITE because she insists she has a "bad girl" persona - whatEV....she is forever more SNOW WHITE TO ME!)

And THAT, my friends, inspired this week's PROMPT!

WEEK ONE PROMPT: "Which princess are you, or do you WISH you were?"

Most every girl at some time or another wants/wanted to be a PRINCESS. The DISNEY franchise is overflowing with them....from Cinderella to Sleeping Beauty and Ariel and of course SNOW WHITE. Maybe you wanted to be Lady Diana Spencer, Princess of Wales, or Princess Grace or maybe you just created a wonderful fantasy world in which you were the Princess of your own kingdom? (Or, if you, like Aimee, dream about having that BAD GIRL thing goin' on, maybe you wanted to be the EVIL WITCH in the story?) Do tell!

For me, my favorite Princess stories as a child were Cinderella (the Lesley Anne Warren version, not the Disney version!) and Sleeping Beauty. My sisters and I watched Cinderella EVERY YEAR when it was on TV....I still love it! But the book I loved the best was this miniature, fat book of Disney stories....Sleeping Beauty and Rapunzel and Cinderella were all in it (again--I didn't like the BLONDE Cinderella! I was loyal to Lesley Anne!)....but I loved the Sleeping Beauty photos with her long gorgeous hair and fairy godmothers and the whole "one true kiss" mess! (SWOON! cue the chirping birds and fairy dust!)

And so...I give you my coloring book page recreation of Sleeping Beauty....with a bit of Glinda the Good Witch from Wizard of Oz thrown in for good measure...because oh I wanted to wear the fairy godmother costumes most of all when I was a kid!

...isn't that what mom taught us? Do we ever NOT have ninety-twelve projects started at once, though?

When I started the Emily Mini Art Journal group last year I PROMISED myself I would FINISH IT. And I was really good....until the end....somehow I missed 12 weeks!! But I took notes and kept a list of what the prompts were each week, and ideas for how I would do my cards for when the muse struck again....

And now...before we start this again tomorrow....I am determined to get my 2007 cards DONE.

With that...here are the first 5 (number 6 is still drying) of my last 12...no photos on these cards cause I am out of ink for the printer....and I cheated and used some NEW product....but ohhh it was GOOD getting back into these little 'canvases!'

Off to a graduation party.....will post the FIRST PROMPT first thing tomorrow!!

Week 40 card: card was pre-prepped with purple paint and a glitter wash; collaged bits from magazines and my "scratch paper" - used Sharpie marker to journal...and those wonderful Making Memories little number stickers. Journaling on the back reads: " NOT ANYMORE! I am not afraid to cut, tear, rip, paint, splash, mess up, try new things when it comes to ART! I will not hoard my papers and embellies! I will stop being afraid to JUST DO IT!"

Week 41 card: Gold foil rubbed directly onto card (base was pre-prepared last year...not sure of the brand of this foil); Making Memories rub-on letters, word stickers are EK Success's Bookworks; gems are from the dollar bin at Joanne Fabrics ; ribbon was purchased by the yard at MLPA - sorry,don't know the vendor! Journaling ont he back reads: "If I had a magic carpet, I'd wisk us off to all the exotic places we've never been. India and Thailand would certainly be first stops. And all the tropical islands would be next!"

Week 46 card: Card is covered with pink/peach patterned paper (I forget the manufacturer...Aim--it's from my INSPIRED book...do you remember all the pink and orange?); "Dream" is cut from a word cardstock strip; votive pics are from the Tracy Porter catalogue; "Green Tea" perfume label is from my favorite perfume that Anthropologie no longer carries!! boo hoo; ribbon is Martha Stewart; Ribbon tape is Amy Butler; bling is My Minds Eye; sticker "bliss" word and letters are Making Memories. This is my favorite of this latest bunch!

Week 47 card: Patterned paper is Basic Grey's Stella Ruby; Olive green solid cardstock is Stampin' Up!; mini floral strip & 'carefree' sticker are Amy Butler; Rub on words and } are My Mind's Eye; Mini letter/number stickers are Making Memories (teal--so gorgeous!) Journaling on the back reads: "My Happy Place is anywhere I can carve out a space to create....preferably with Rob close by enjoying a book or movie while I multi-task!"

Week 51 card: Picture from a Somerset Studios magazine adhered to card; edges painted with green acrylic paint; purple floss is DMC; Journaling on back reads: "This week's prompt is "Made me think of you." This image so reminds me of my gram and pap. They always planted pansies and violas and the handwriting on the postcard looks a little like my Gram's. Always as the holidays approach, I miss you."

How do you like the new banner? Too much with the rickrack and corner flowers? hmmmm?

OK...maybe I should just REDO this one in PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS now that I have it a bit more figured out....Cause I love the photo and the orange...just not the blurriness of the text.....

EDITED: Redid "the orange one" in PhotoShop Elements...still don't like the way the font looks on my screen....but I always liked this photo so it will do for now!

Do you think people do them on PAPER and just scan it? I just DO NOT GET the digital stuff. Seriously--where is my DIGI-FAIRY-GODMOTHER???

Ok all....seems we have a bit more 'splainin' to do!

What does WASSIMA stand for you ask? Silly us...we should have let you in on that one right off!! It's a group of us who attended this year's INSPIRED Artist Workshop hosted by Donna Downey....it stands for "We Are Still So Inspired Mail Art" Group...we decided to team up to stay in touch and share our creations and living-the-artful-life stuff. : )

And that's the only question, so far!
